Fun Summer Things to Do in Destin

We love summer in Destin. With long days at the beach, sandy toes, and sunset toasts, what’s not to love? In addition to fun days at the beach, there are fun summer things to do in Destin some of which are only offered during the summer season. This activity can actually be enjoyed year round but for some reason we tend to enjoy it more during the summer months. Kids of all ages will feel like a kid again. Body surfing and boogie boarding are also fun on those days with gentle rolling waves.

Big Kahuna’s Waterpark.

Big Kahuna’s Waterpark offers both thrills and chills. The park has over 40 rides, slides, pools, and water play areas. Highlights include one their newest additions, the Kowabunga Racer, a fast and fun slide for racing friends with four-lanes of optimal race space. Another popular ride is the Honolulu Half Pipe, which simulates riding a surfboard and allows boys and girls (especially boys) show off their wave riding skills as 17,000 gallons of water per minute are sprayed up a ramp to simulate a half pipe. This trip lasts about 90 minutes, and beings with a calm 10-15 minute tour of the Destin Harbor. After that it’s off you go into the Gulf of Mexico in search of dolphins. This trip is especially exciting for kids who will enjoy taking turns captaining the boat during the summer months. (One adult pass per day with most Newman-Dailey rentals).

Parasailing.

Parasailing takes thrill seekers to new heights. You’ll feel like you’re flying as you soar 500 feet up in the air, enjoying the most breathtaking views of the emerald green waters of the Gulf.  Participants and spotters load the boat from a private dock and once out in open water, you’ll be launched into the air. For those who wish to document the bucket list experience, photo packages are available, which use state-of-the-art cameras equipped with high-powered zoom lenses to photograph you taking it all in. Snorkel the jetties of the Destin Harbor.

This 3-hour snorkeling trip begins with a short boat ride to snorkel along the Destin jetties to view crabs, fish and other marine life that live within the rocks. No experience necessary as snorkelers and stay in shallow water or enjoy the deeper water near the pass. On shore, participants may use the kayaks to paddle around in the clear blue water. Next, the group will head out in the boat in search of dolphins in the pass and there are usually plenty of schools that seem to enjoy putting on show while searching for their next meal. Finally, you’ll head into the Bay and stop at a beach on Okaloosa Island where you’ll search for souvenir shells. View our tips for snorkel tours here.
