We’re in the final weeks of the 67th Annual Destin Fishing Rodeo. This is a great time to get in on the action or simply head down to the docks to view the weigh-ins.
Destin has long been known as the World’s Luckiest Fishing Village and the Destin Rodeo takes fishing to a competitive sport. Here’s the top things to know about the Destin Fishing Rodeo:
There are two ways to get in on the action. Either schedule a fishing charter aboard a boat that is registered in the rodeo. Or fish on your own from a pier, bridge or jetty, which is free for anglers 14 years or younger and $25 for anglers 15 to adult.
There are daily, weekly and overall prizes. At the end of the Rodeo more than $100,000 is awarded in cash and prizes. There are junior, teen, ladies and senior divisions so there are lots of chances to reel in the winning catch.
The best part is that virtually every gamefish is recognized with awards. Whether you’re trolling inshore for King Mackerel, offshore for Marlin and Sailfish or fishing the bottom for Red Snapper and Grouper, all these fish are eligible for prizes during the Destin Fishing Rodeo.
On the docks behind AJ’s Seafood & Oyster Bar on the Destin Harbor. Stand on the docks for a up close and personal view, sit on the bleachers and enjoy a front row seat or sit on the porch and order a drink/meal and watch the excitement. Located at 116 Harbor Blvd, Destin, FL 32541
