South Walton Hosts Billfish Tournament, June 19-23

 As one of the fastest growing billfish tournaments on the Gulf Coast, the Emerald Coast Blue Marlin Classic takes place this weekend at the Baytowne Marina at Sandestin. Whether you're an angler or a spectator, you'll get reeled in watching the weigh-ins.

In the past several years two blue marlin “Granders” (blue marlin weighing over 1,000 lbs.) have been weighed in, and state records for blue marlin and both bluefin and yellowfin tuna have been broken! Weigh-ins will be held from 4-9 p.m. on Friday (6/21) and 4-10 p.m. on Saturday (6/22).

More than 85 teams are expected to compete for over $1.5 million in cash awards. The parade of boats will head out on Thursday (6/20) between 3-4 p.m. and the official competition begins at 4 p.m.

Fishing in South Walton can produce delicious results, and deep sea fishing in Destin is some of the best in the world. Speak of best in the world, during your visit to Sandestin Marina, be sure to check out The Guinness Book of World Records "Largest Fishing Lure in the World." Weighing in at 355 lbs. and 10 feet long, the colorful lure provides a great photo opp in between the excitement of team weigh-ins.
