Help Get Butts Off the Beach

On Sat., Sept. 15, volunteers in South Walton and Destin, Fla. will join the world in participating  in 28th Annual International Coastal Cleanup from 8 am - 10 am to keep our beaches clean and pristine.

For more than a quarter of a century, the Ocean Conservancy spearheads the International Coastal Cleanup each September. We invite you to join 598,000 volunteers worldwide in removing trash from the world's 20,776 miles of shoreline. Last year, volunteers collected 9.1 million pounds of trash worldwide, which included everything imaginable. C igarette butts are the most common debris item collected and one of the most harmful to the environment.

VISIT South Walton will be set up at five regional beach accesses, including Inlet Beach, Ed Walline, Blue Mountain, Dune Allen and Miramar Beach. In addition to supply gloves and bottled water, the first 100 volunteers will get a commemorative t-shirt. In Destin, Okaloosa County is coordinating three clean up stations, including Okaloosa Island (Beasley Park), Beach Walk East of Surfweller (Santa Rosa Blvd.) and Henderson Beach State Park.

We invite you to join the voluntourism movement and help us keep the area's beaches clean and beautiful!
